me and 4 of my close friends backpacked through europe for 6 weeks. through our travels we visited many cities in 13 different countries. we started in dublin, ireland, and worked our way down as far south as athens greece, and then back up ireland. we traveled very eager to meet new people and experience something new. as we traveled we met many people, some natives and others travelers like ourselves. some of the people we met were friendly enough to allow us to stay with them. our very first day in ireland after wandering for several hourse we became very exhausted. we met an irish man who then let us stay at his house for free as well as offered to treat us to dinner. as we traveled we also stayed with an italian family as well as in the back yard of some kids our age. aside from staying with these people we only stayed in one hostel and 2 hotels, the rest of our trip we slept outside every night. some of the places we slept in were; fields, parks, beaches, abandoned roof tops, garages, under free ways, schools, sheltered bike racks, ect. the thrill of not knowing where you might end up the next day is undescribable. we might be sleeping on a roof top in greece one night and sleeping in a field in switzerland the next. to travel without a plan is the real way to experience new surroundings. when you travel without a plan you see places you might not have seen by sticking to a schedule. to wake up one morning and not know where you are about to go or where you are going to sleep that night is a feeling one can not describe. what seperates travelers and tourists is that tourists do not know where they have been and travelers do not know where they are going. "life is a book; those who do not travel have only read a page".
